Thank you from the Coalition

May 12 was an historic day for British Columbia with Premier Gordon Campbell and the BC Liberals elected to a third term.

The result was great news for BC’s small- to medium-sized businesses fighting their way through a global economic downturn. With the win the government is committed to taking the small business tax rate to the lowest level in the country, increasing the threshold for the tax, and doubling the training tax credit.

We also avoided the negative impacts of the NDP platform — $450 million in extra payroll expenses from the minimum wage increase, the lack of long-term tax relief, and added expenses for employers in the independent power and liquor store sectors.

The Coalition led the charge on behalf of the business community on most of these issues, and made sure our key issues impacting employers and employees did not fall of the table in the election debate.

From the time we planned our campaign in October 2008, we defined the election as being about jobs and the economy and who was best able to lead British Columbia.
“Don’t risk your paycheque and job on the NDP – VoteBCJobs” – was our tag line from the start and a theme that resonated throughout the campaign. In the end, we saw the economy and jobs play out as the pivotal issue when people went to the polls.
